The mission of The Redwoods is to maintain a creative, affordable community that promotes good health, well-being and security for a diverse group of elders.

The Redwoods consists of fifteen, inter-connected, one-to-three story buildings on ten acres of beautiful grounds with the following amenities:

Who We Are
People who make their home at The Redwoods come from diverse walks of life to form a vibrant, friendly, eclectic community. Residents have an active voice in programs and activities and take pride in the contributions they make to enhance the quality of life at The Redwoods.
The Redwoods attracts interesting, stimulating people. Residents include: writers, union organizers, cartoonists, artists, dancers, musicians, social workers, nurses, educators, naturalists, advocates and film makers.
Activities and Programs
Regularly scheduled activities at The Redwoods include concerts, films, arts, and lectures. The Redwoods prides itself on integrating with the community and local students participate in many inter-generational programs here. The College of Marin also offers on-going educational classes.
Below is a sampling of current activities and programs:
* Robert Sinclair Scott Organic Garden: With the help and guidance of our master
gardener, residents grow healthy, organic vegetables and beautiful flowers.
Raised planting beds allow easy access for all ability levels.
* The Redwoods Drummers: This group has discovered the physical, psychological and
spiritual rewards of drumming and they perform throughout the local region.
* Writing Classes: Residents write brief essays, stories, poems and memoirs guided
by a professional teacher and present their work to the group for feed-back.
* Exercise Classes: The Redwoods offers classes that range from weight training,
stretching and improving your balance classes to Tai Chi, Yoga, and Dancing.
* Computer Lab: Volunteers help keep residents up to date with guided instruction
and training on software, internet use and other computer technologies.
* Legacy Group: There are many ways to tell a life story. The Legacy group
provides an opportunity to share and write a very personal account of one’s life
adventures.
* Native Plant Society: The California Native Plant Society presents slides on
various topics related to California plants.
* Reach Out Group: A group of residents made up of former social workers and
nurses organize regular visits with residents in Healthcare to assist with
special requests and to keep them part of the community.
* Memory Program: Several programs are geared to keep the residents’ memory in
shape by offering playful and fun exercises and reminiscing.
* Arts Classes: Artists and hobbyists at The Redwoods continue to practice their
craft in our dynamic art classes led by experienced professionals.

Nearby Services & Transportation
Close to The Redwoods are supermarkets, drug stores, restaurants, banks, churches, art galleries, cinemas, a theater, a public library, a post office, medical and dental practioners and a Community Center. The Redwoods' Bus provides transportation to doctors' appointments, shopping centers, museums, concerts, movies, farmer's markets and much more. Residents may also have personal vehicles or use public transportation. Golden Gate Transit offers bus service throughout Marin County and to San Francisco. Whistestop Wheels provides low-cost, door-to-door service for eligible seniors.
Medical Care
Residents select their personal physicians and insurance policies. The Health Care Center offers 24-hour nursing care to its residents and is certified for Medi-Cal and Medicare.
